Pages 14-21 Patterns and Flatware

The butter picks of the era were still one sided affairs, much as if a spoon had been

cut down into a pick. The backs are stamped as a fork or spoon would be.

The 1920 Catalog Introduces four new patterns. Three are variations of

CLINTON and LADY CLAIRE

The Clinton’s and Lady Claire all used the same basic form.

Clinton would remain in production until 1974

The above Clinton A, and the below Clinton B patterns were very short lived.

Neither of them appear in the 1923 price lists or any later materials.

(The following is not part of the 1920 catalog)

Lady Claire was named after Claire Stieff, the wife of Stieff President,

Gideon N . Stieff. She helped select the site for the new Stieff factory when she and Gideon were dating... and while “spooning” on a grassy hill in Druid Park pointed out a piece of land that would be good for the factory that Gideon

was planning to build soon. Gideon agreed, and the famous Stieff building still stands on that location today. Some silver books list Lady Claire as a 1925

pattern. You can see here that they are wrong.

nee’ Alma Claire von Marees

Mrs. Stieff was later a member of the board of directors of the company

She lived to be 102 years old, passing on May 2, 2003. (b. 6-30-1900)
