1920 Stieff Catalog

a 1992 reprint of the 1920 catalog by Michael a. merrill inc.

commemorating the 100th anniversary of

The Stieff company

This reprint of the 1920 catalog is a close example of what the original looked like. A friend of mine has an excellent original copy and his has 95 pages while this edition has 91. The cover of the original catalog is light blue. The copy has a tan cover, and I have tinted this scan to approximate the original cover.

Some pages are a bit “washed out” by the scanning process or by me trying to show the images in the best way. The reprint is a bit “heavy”  in many places and the dark images do not scan and present well. My feeling is that you are here for the silver and not the margins of the pages.

By 1920 we have had to say good-bye to several of the Stieff patterns. Victoria is gone. So is the Plain pattern, and a pattern that is highly collected today ... Chrysanthemum is also gone forever.  Plain will be replaced by Clinton. Chrysanthemum was replaced with Forget-Me-Not and Victoria just  slipped away. The reasons for the changes... are lost to history.

Lady Claire is the new girl on the block in 1920.
