1939 Stieff SIlver Catalog

The 1939 Catalog is mostly a reprint of the 1937 catalog. There are some new pages here, some new items are introduced and some are quietly dropped from the line.

America had mostly come out of the great depression as the 1930’s had progressed. As this catalog would have been prepared, 1938 saw a quick and painful drop into recession and great fears that the country would drop back into a depression.

In Europe, the war had been growing and there were calls for the US to join in the war. In 1939 many in the US were preparing for war and the US was producing a lot of war material for England.

I have done little to “clean up” the pages in this catalog. As the copy that I scanned is fairly fragile, I tried not to manipulate it too much and some pages may show rounded corners as I did not want to force the book too hard on the scanner.

This catalog does have some markings inside, made in years past by prior owners, sometimes marking weights, sizes or what ever. I have left those in place as they are part of the history of this particular catalog.

John Lilly of The Silver Matching Company loaned me this

1939 catalog so that I could scan it and share it with others

via this site. I encourage you to visit his site.

Again, a personal thank-you to

John Lilly at

silvermatchingcompany.com

for the loan of this valuable catalog.

I encourage you to visit his site. I personally shop there, and his prices are in my opinion (and I should know) are very fair and the quality of the silver is excellent. His inventory is shrinking fast so shop sooner than later.

I make no money from this site, nor am I compensated for my comments about

the companies that have graciously loaned catalogs and other material to this

site for image scanning.
