SILVEr Restoration

Sometimes bad things can happen to our good silver.  Houses burn,

floods come in, Kids being kids or Heirlooms just get dropped.

With fewer and fewer homes having silver these days, qualified silversmiths are becoming rare. Few are looking to put the years of apprenticeship into learning the trade. So, repairs of silver is becoming a lost art... and an expensive one if you do find a qualified silversmith.

As with any type of restoration, ask for references and examples of their works... both before and after photos. Estimates are just that... know going in that there could be

more damage than meets the eye... so the estimate could end up being a lot more expensive. And of course, ask yourself if the repair makes sense. Often these days, it is easier to buy an replacement on eBay or Etsy than to pay for a repair. Historic silver might be an exception.
