1952 Flatware price list

1952 Flatware price list
This Price List is from the 1952 Dealer Catalog.
Note that in 1952 the address was still Wyman Park Driveway. This would later be shortened to Drive. Zip Codes were still over a decade away.
The Williamsburg Catalog, also in this binder uses Drive, instead of Driveway.
The reverse of the above page is blank and is not published here.
The photography and language used here is identical to the 1937 Catalog. Here they talk about Rose having been made “For more than forty years” when in fact 1952 would be the 55th year of production.
There appears to be no discount for buying by the dozen.
Again, the 1937 script, which talks about Corsage being one of the newer patterns. (Corsage was introduced in 1935)
Stieffs prices were based on the amount of silver used, the time to make it and a respectable profit for the company. This formula made for some interesting pricing that we would never see today. A jelly server was 3.93 and a youth fork sold for 4.17
Today the prices would be rounded upwards to a “price point”.
Because of the hand engraving, Lady Claire was a premium priced pattern
The “Olivewood Set” reference here for 12.61 is a Salad Serving Set, made
with Olivewood utensils and shafts with Sterling handles.
(These sets would also later be available in Teak)
The Williamsburg deal was inked in 1939 with production starting in 1940. This language seems to have come from a 1940 script, when the company was almost 50 years old (48). In 1952, they had been in business for 60 years.
The RT in the Catalog refer to “Raleigh Tavern” which was the name of this pattern when introduced. Today we call it “Queen Anne”. Raleigh Tavern was and is again today one of Williamsburg’s most popular Tavern/Restaurants.
The Princess Pattern, was the most costly pattern in the house.
A butter spreader in Rose was 2.88, but in Princess that cost rose to 5.70 (without tax) Lady Claire was 3.63 for the same item.
Princess was “Made to Order Only”
Also known to some as “Hand Chased Rose”
The Hollow Ware and Williamsburg Restoration catalogs will be added soon to this site. Please check back for those.
